Vinyl Plank Flooring Installation

Luxury vinyl plank is the most requested floor we install, and for good reason: it is genuinely waterproof, it holds up to dogs and kids, and it costs a fraction of hardwood.

LVP has taken over for a simple reason. It handles the parts of real life that ruin other floors — spilled drinks, tracked-in snow, a dog that comes in wet from the yard, a washing machine that overflows. Water sits on it and nothing happens.

It is also the right answer for a below-grade space. Basements move with humidity, and solid hardwood will cup and buckle down there. Vinyl plank does not care.

Subfloor prep is most of the job

LVP is thin, and it telegraphs whatever is underneath it. Every dip, hump and old adhesive ridge shows through as a soft spot or a visible wave. We flatten the subfloor before a single plank goes down — that step is where cheap installs fail.

Click-lock, glue-down or loose-lay

Which one is right depends on the room, the subfloor and how much traffic it sees. Click-lock floats and handles seasonal movement. Glue-down is more stable underfoot and better for wide open commercial spaces. We will tell you which one your room actually needs.

Wear layer is what you are paying for

The pattern is a photograph. The wear layer on top of it is what determines whether the floor looks new in eight years or scratched in eight months. We will show you the difference between a 6 mil and a 20 mil so you know what you are buying.

Transitions and trim finish the job

Where the floor meets tile, carpet or a doorway is where a rushed install looks rushed. Quarter round, T-molding and reducers get cut and fit, not caulked over.

Common questions

Vinyl Plank (LVP) — straight answers.

Is vinyl plank really waterproof?

The plank itself is, yes. What is not waterproof is the subfloor underneath it if water gets past the edges and sits there. In a bathroom or laundry room we seal the perimeter so standing water cannot get under the floor.

Can you install over my existing floor?

Often, yes — over tile, sheet vinyl or a well-adhered existing floor, provided it is flat and sound. Over carpet, never. We will check the subfloor when we come out to measure.

How long does an install take?

A typical 400 to 600 square foot area is usually one to two days including furniture and old floor removal. Whole houses run longer. Subfloor repair adds time, and we will tell you that up front rather than discovering it on day two.

Is the installation warrantied?

Yes. Every installation we do carries a one-year workmanship warranty. If something we installed fails because of how it was installed, we come back and fix it. Manufacturer defects are covered separately by the product warranty, and we will help you file that claim.

“Mike has done several rooms in our home and each one was a stellar job. Highly recommend As Good As It Gets. Mike will be doing our plank floor in our sunroom this fall.”
